inside pakistan in less than two weeks. the obama administration has begun 2013 with a flurry of drone attacks inside pakistan, raising speculation is accelerating the bombings before its capacity to carry them out is diminished with a planned withdrawal from afghanistan by the end of next year. according to a tally by the website long war journal, u.s. drones have already killed as many as 11 civilians and 30 suspected militants in the first 10 days of the year. confirmed, that would mean a death ratio of more than one civilian for every three suspected militants. it would also already exceed the official civilian death toll for 2012, though that number is likely to small because u.s. policy deems all adult males as militants unless contrary evidence emerges after their deaths. according to the washington post, the future stationing of cia bases that launch the drone strikes will be among the topics discussed by the white house and afghan president karzai during karzai's current visit to washington. the obama administration has reportedly set its expectations low for passage of a new

street ended the obama administration as i was carrying out my job at sigtarp and providing oversight. he warned me if i didn't change my tone up at her credibility to get a job after sigtarp, when i left government, presumably to get a job on wall street, but it seemed to him i wasn't interested in that. he said within the administration. if i change my tone, became her upbeat and positive, good things could happen to me. he mentioned perhaps an obama appointment as a judge if only i would change my tone. at the time and i heard the conversation, i thought it was being threatened or bribed to be honest with you. basically if you don't shape up, mr. camile ruin your entire career, but if you change your tune, good things can happen to you. later i realized he was explaining to me how washington works and what it means to be a regulator in washington and that means player punches, go with the flow and great things can happen, including a rich career on wall street, to speak your mind and be effective and you can do yourself real harm. c-span: herb allison, you describe came from merrill ly

: the obama administration really wants to crack down on the for-profit school issue. one thing they have done is that they have tried to strengthen the rules that too many other students are defaulting defaulting on their loans within two or three years of graduating, they will take away any federal aid from that school. the other thing they have tried to do is call the gainful employment rule. they would look at whether students are getting jobs after they graduate from that school. if not enough of the students are getting jobs, then they will take away federal aid. that rule was sent back to the education department. the judge said there was a problem with the process by which they put that in place. that rule is on hold. administration is trying to address that. host: the topic is college costs and student loans. here is a tweet."defunding univ problem." is the our next caller is named michael and he is a student from texas. go ahead with your comments. caller: i want to make a comment on someone earlier who was talking about how a high school diploma does not mean anything and that now a

the obama administration, "the price of politics." criticism from the speaker, speaker boehner, about jack lew as being uncompromising and being someone that he didn't find he could negotiate with and come to a deal with in these past discussions. so there's that, but i'll also tell you it reminds me talking about that that when jack lew was announced as chief of staff to replace bill daly that one of the things we heard was it was welcome news to democrats on the hill. they had felt that daly had not been terribly responsive even to them. and jack lew is someone that democrats were very happy to have here standing next to president obama as the chief of staff. so we're definitely hearing some folks who are very much in favor of jack lew taking this position as treasury secretary and ultimately i think is expected to be a confirmation process that is expected to go smoothly. >> let us know when we get that famous two-minute warning before the president and jack lew, tim geithner and company. gloria borger is here with me, kate bold uan is here. alevelsi velshi. the last time i almost is wh

of you may know that the obama administration tried to start doing that, mostly in the for-profit sector, but not exclusively, and has had a lot of opposition over that. i think we will see more efforts coming in the next four years. the last thing i would say is what i said earlier, which is that for people who do not complete, knowing that this is a factor that leads to default, that we do not make that the final sentence for everybody. let's make it easier for people to transition out of default, to prevent them from getting into default in the first place. the best way to solve the problem is to help people and of succeeding. if you have better completion rates, you have your people in the problem in the first place. >> the key is getting the student who starts to the finish line. the focus on completion rates has a new ones to it. -- nuance to it. one of the easiest ways for college to have good completion rates is to deny admission to high risk students. we need to remove the obstacles that keep students from completing their education. i do not think community colleges are the sol
